Kitchener Trail - Section Fourteen

Mountain Biking Sherwood Pines ‘Fifth Avenue’

On a fresh, dry, and sunny Thursday morning I headed over to Sherwood Pinesin Nottinghamshire to sample its only red route, the Kitchener Trail.

What a difference a bit of sun makes. Last time I was in Sherwood Pines it was wet and muddy. This time the trail was back to a flat fast flowing trail with berms and rollers, and a nice mix of rocks and roots. As I was on a larger loop which passed through the pines, I didn’t complete the full 13km, but the sections I did complete I thoroughly enjoyed.

I nearly completed a review of all sixteen sections of the Kitchener Trailduring a trip earlier in the year. However, the rain and mud had an impact on filming as the camera was splattered. So, I’m back to finish the last couple of sections as part of the series. I'll finish breaking the root down section by section so you can see how the trail fares.

This week is the release of section fourteen video. Check it out above.

Section fourteen named ‘Fifth Avenue’ is around half a kilometre long with a downhill trend making it a nice quick section. You enter the section from a fire road onto a small incline that moves right and left. The trail is bumpy before settling down and heading straight, cutting through the floor ferns with the trees towering above. It’s then on the decline with small twists and turns, across a small trail and the twists and turns continue to the end. The section ends left on a fire road and after ten metres ducking into the next section.

The section today was fantastic. From the entry point the Sun was blazing through the trees ahead, flickering as you traverse the trail. The ground was very firm so when hitting the slight decline, you could use the bumps to your advantage to pump the bike along. It’s a nice section after the slight uphill of section thirteen. One of the better sections of the whole Kitchener Trail.

Keep an eye out for next week’s look at the Kitchener trail section fifteen.

Three rides this week that demonstrated amazing autumn at its fullest. The colours of the leaves, the covering of the trails and the animals out foraging on the trails. Autumn maybe my favourite season....

I woke this morning with the sun blazing through the blinds. Whilst there are plenty of down sides to losing your job during the corona virus pandemic, there are a couple of upsides. One is when you fancy a bike out you can just get up and go. This was a moment to take advantage.
